Eastern Cherokee Heritage
One of my cousins, Mike Goins (a DNA match), led me to Martha McAlister Longwith. Martha's mother was Elizabeth Goins and Martha's grandparents were Edmond/Edward and Sallie Goins. Martha applied for compensation as an Eastern Cherokee Indian. Below are 4 pages from that application. Most telling is the sworn statement from Elizabeth's brother, John. John Goins stated that they were told they were quarter blood Eastern Cherokee Indian.
Another interesting find is that Martha listed her aunts and uncles on the Goins side and where they resided in 1908.
